(Todd B.): I'll never forget this one day, a couple years ago, when I was in the gym. It was a tough workout on a hot Summer day. I don't remember the distances of the workout, but it involved multiple rounds of rowing combined with running laps on a dirt trail right outside our gym. We got done with the workout. Tiff and another girl had come in last place and they were a little beat up about it. (Excuse my language, but) I told them "F*ck all that. What matters is that y'all are in here. There are grown men that are afraid to step foot in this
gym, let alone complete the workout that y'all just did."
She thanked me for changing her perspective about that day's workout. And I thank her for being my guest blogger this week! Make a comment on this blog if you'd like her to see it.....
Tiff's Short Story:
In July 2009 I completed my first 5k, the Allen Stone Braveheart run. I started slow - doing walk/run laps around my complex until I decided to run a real race. At that time I was a heavy smoker, heavy drinker, rarely worked out, awful eater and 50 lbs heavier.
Fast forward three years, I just ran the VA Wine Country Half Marathon, my very first half in June, finishing in 2:32! I never in a million years thought I would run a half marathon but since going 80/20 with Paleo, working out often, barely drinking and no smoking, I have lost 50lbs and am wearing the same size I did when I graduated high school! One mantra I always repeat to myself when temptations arise "eat for the body you want, not for the body you have." Since every body is different, I know that most of my weight loss happens with food. Some people can eat whatever they want if they just exercise. Not me, that slice of pizza goes right to the gut. I stay motivated by always researching new workouts, reading my fav magazines (Runners World, Shape, Self, Health), following awesome blogs that feature new Paleo recipes and treating myself to rewards - iTunes songs for a run, pedicures, and right now new bikinis :)
Health and fitness are absolutely a lifestyle that takes commitment and hard work to maintain. But the feeling of confidence you get wearing your own skin --- that's worth every drop of sweat.
